I offer both counselling and psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy and counselling offer different paths for mental health support and personal growth.
Psychotherapy tends to be a deeper, longer-term process that explores underlying patterns in your life, past experiences, and how they shape your present. It often involves looking at unconscious processes, recurring relationship patterns, and deep-seated beliefs about yourself and others. This approach can be particularly helpful when dealing with long-standing issues, complex trauma, or when seeking profound personal change.
Counselling tends to focus on specific current challenges or life transitions, offering more immediate, solution-focused support. It can help you navigate particular situations like relationship difficulties, work stress, grief, or major life changes. The work tends to be more short-term, practical and present-focused, helping you develop coping strategies and find solutions to current problems.
While distinct in their approach, these methods can complement each other well. Some people find that starting with counselling for immediate support leads naturally to deeper psychotherapeutic work, while others may benefit from focusing on specific issues after a period of in-depth therapy.
Relational Gestalt therapy
Across counselling and psychotherapy, my work is grounded in relational Gestalt therapy. In practice, this means noticing together what you’re experiencing as we talk, including thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Patterns from your life outside the therapy room often show up in how we relate, so we can notice them as they arise and explore new ways of responding. In counselling, this approach keeps the work focused on your current concerns, while in psychotherapy it takes us further into their longer-standing roots.
Professional registration
I hold professional registration with three Australian bodies. Each one sets standards for training, ethical conduct and ongoing professional development, and I continue to meet those standards to keep my registration current.
Victorian Association of Gestalt Practitioners (VAGP): Registered Gestalt Therapist
Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA): Certified Practising Registrant
Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA): Registered Music Therapist
Confidentiality & Privacy
I discuss my work regularly in clinical supervision, using de-identified information. This is a professional requirement and part of keeping the work safe and effective.
I practise under the PACFA Code of Ethics, and what you tell me stays between us. The exceptions are narrow: your consent, a serious risk to someone's safety, and a legal requirement such as a court order.
Your records are stored securely, in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic). Please review my privacy policy at the base of this website for more detail.
